President Barack Obama is the first American president known to have authorized the assassination of a US citizen with the use of a drone. What’s a drone you ask? A drone or an unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV), is an unmanned aerial vehicle that doesn’t need the assistance of a pilot. Thus no need for a human being to physically be in the cockpit, no danger of death, no need for flight controls, or environmental help in controlling cockpit pressure and oxygen levels. The drone however is operated in real time by a human being but this can be achieved from a safe location.
Drones themselves have been around for ages. So lets not all act like this is a new concept. This information is just getting out to the public who actually have half a brain to question what the hell is going on in the world around us. Drones first came about in the 1950s and have been used ever since. I personally wont go into detail with all the aviation mumbo-jumbo but I can assure you people they’ve been around. Back to the topic at hand.
On September 30, 2011, Anwar al-Awlaki, a U.S. citizen who was born in New Mexico, was killed by an American drone in Yemen along with another U.S. citizen, Samir Khan, who grew up in New York City and Charlotte, North Carolina. By in large both of these men were well known affiliates of Al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda as we all know is a term loosely based by the government to classify all those that are involved with terrorism both domestic and foreign into one category. Trust me its easier that way. If you’ve actually done research on “Al-Qaeda” you can see that there are sub groups and sub sub groups of the one that came before it. There are far too many terrorist cells to do my due diligence and what the hell do I look like, a CIA agent?
The point is… 14TH AMENDMENT – “No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law”
YET the decision to target al-Awlaki for death was made without any kind of due process whatsoever AND to top it off, they killed Khan because he just so happened to be riding in the same car as al-Awlaki! Well played NSA…. well played.
My argument isn’t defending these religious sociopaths. No I will not say Islamists because people need to recognize the difference between the people who practice Islam and those who are radical fundamentalists. My argument is when does the buck stop with this type of behavior? The government has been given carte blanche to do whatever they feel is necessary to protect the world from terrorism and I rightly agree in that TO AN EXTENT. BUT what about tomorrow or the next day? Who makes these kinds of calls as to who is dangerous and who isn’t? Should Americans fear our own government who will execute its own citizens without any due process?
